Ashley Enriquez, M.A. LMFT

Ashley Enriquez, M.A. LMFT
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

I work with couples to find new approaches for effective communication, conflict resolution and togetherness. For couples who are interested in premarital enrichment counseling, I work to provide tools to strengthen communication with one another in many areas. I also special experience working with couples who have children with special needs and/or behavioral issues. I believe that working with couples is a collaborative process which includes the concerns and issues that are important to each partner. It is my job to be an advocate for the relationship. The best way I have found to do this is by using the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. This method utilizes scientifically validated tools to help couples learn to connect and communicate as well as manage conflict effectively. While taking into account the needs of each partner, Gottman Therapy focuses on strengthening and repairing the relationship.

When working with engaged couples, I utilize TWOGETHER in TEXAS' GREAT START premarital counseling. In this process, I have found that even couples who have been in their relationship for a long period of time may begin to talk about important issues for the first time. These are conversations that are very important in achieving a happy and long lasting marriage.

I also work with individuals to achieve personal growth and help with struggles with day to day stressors, anxiety and depression. When I work with individuals, I focus on their unique personal narrative. I believe my clients are the expert on their own personal experience and are the vehicle for the changes they wish to achieve. By collaborating with my clients, we are able to work together to find solutions and create positive change.

Speciality Areas: Marriage & Couples Counseling, Premarital Counseling, Anxiety Issues, Individual Counseling & Personal Growth.

Valerie Rivas, M.A. LPC

Valerie G. Rivas, M.A. LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor

Specializing in Chronic Illness, Infertility or Miscarriage, Trauma, First Responders, & Individual Personal Growth (6th Grade and Up) with a Christian or Clinical Counseling Approach.

As a San Antonio native, who grew up on the Southside, I whole-heartedly know the strength and courage it takes to accept when we face struggles with life. I was on track to attend medical school, but decided to put it on hold to answer God's call to do missionary work in South Africa for a year. While living in Umphumulo, South Africa, I learned what it means to accompany others

along their journey because of the isiZulu’s culture focusing on “Ubuntu,” which emphasizes brotherhood and humanity to others.  Upon my return home, to San Antonio, I worked on the Westside of town in the high school public education system. Both of these experiences led me to pursue mental health counseling.

My Christian-influenced, higher education and experience have helped me understand the significance of integrating psychology with Christian values, while also understanding the importance of being in tune to our physical, mental/emotional, social, and spiritual selves.  This holistic approach in emphasizing the Biopsychosocial-Spiritual Model is what drives my work in counseling individuals, couples, and groups. As a mental health therapist, I am able to accompany others where they are, help them understand their strengths, and allow them to take charge in changing and developing their lives.

I have 5 years experience in the healthcare field which has given me a knowledge base and experience in serving others with chronic illnesses. In addition, I also have 5 years experience working in both middle and high school public education systems, which began my work with adolescents, young adults, and their families. This unique position has fueled my desire to expand, explore, and continue accompanying populations within my specialty areas.

My hobbies include:  reading, running, playing with my dog, singing, the San Antonio Spurs, and enjoying time with Family and Friends.

Speciality Areas: Christian or Clinical Counseling, Chronic Illness, Infertility, Miscarriage, IVF, Trauma, Abuse or Neglect, First Responders and their Families, Individual Personal Growth (6th Grade & up)

Education: Master of Arts in Counseling from Wayland Baptist University, San Antonio, TX, Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from Texas Lutheran University, South San Antonio High School Alumni.
